Since I'm not writing a lot these days...

Well, since I'm not writing a lot these days, let me direct you to Scroozle, whose "State of Public English Education In Korea" is pretty spot-on, and suggests a set of reforms I could get behind.

TL:DR: (as a Marmot commenter once wrote:)
1. Good foreign English teachers
2. Many foreign English teachers
3. Cheap foreign English teachers

Choose 2.

(Right now Korea is choosing 2 and 3, and forgoing 1)

Go read the whole article... and argue with him if you like.

The way they're treating GEPIK and the squeeze they're putting on university profs (from what I've heard secondhand), soon they'll only be going for 3.

Serious ungood things about English teachers in Korea are filtering back into the American press in recent years...

And I hope you're not succumbing to creeping whatsthepoint-itis. Roboseyo is one of the few K-blogs I have really enjoyed, that I didn't discover at the tail-end of its run.

Can I just say how much I love the photo of you on the top of your blog? It is so very you. Miss you, friend. xo.

Not Whatsthepoint-itis. More Gotababynow-itis. I also feel like I've kind of written myself out on that topic, and other writers are both more invested in the issue, and have the time to write it out better than I do.

And honestly... after what a negative morass my ATEK involvement turned out to be, despite the best intentions and me and everyone else involved in that mess.... there might be a case once bitten (rather: seven times bitten) twice shy (eight times shy).

Finally, how can I top the lengthy, thoughtful stuff I wrote in 2009, when I barely have time to do the reading for my one class a week?

You can always switch to daddy-blogging...?? My daughter looks like a Korean version of Brooke Shields, and all the ajummas would turn and coo when we walked by, during our stay in Korea. Bet you've had or will have many human interest moments like that!

perhaps... if my kid will let me sit down and type without wanting to bang my laptop...
