Update on Babyseyo

last friday we went into the hospital for a pregnancy update, and...

that's right. We saw a gochu.

And along the way, I've figured out that, at least in my opinion, there is one situation in which it's perfectly OK and non-controversial to show people a close-up picture of your son's willie:

when it's an ultrasound. Once that baby's out of his mom, it just ain't kosher anymore. (Sorry, Borat. No, I'm not including a link to the picture.)

I was told last week that it was illegal for the doctors in Korea to tell you if it was male or female. (And that people get around it sometimes by asking "should I buy blue or pink?")

During the first two trimesters, I'm pretty sure it is. Some doctors get around it, and now that gender-selective abortions are not as stylish as they used to be, it might not be so bad if they do. Back in 2004, I knew a guy whose doctor told him because he was a foreigner, and therefore the doctor assumed he didn't have the manchild preference Korean families used to.

That's interesting. I only realized this when I told my boyfriend that my friend in the states was going to have a boy and he was very surprised that she knew already. Apparently he assumed that it was illegal to tell the sex of the baby anywhere in the world. lol. I was really surprised to hear this rule is still in place now since I *hope* in this day and age Korean parents aren't killing their girl children before birth. I do hope that in China they do have a rule like that though.

Interesting. I did not know such law existed in Korea.

And congratulations to you and your wife on your upcoming addition to your family (regardless of baby's gender)! :)

The kid looks a lot like his dad.
