New York Times has an interesting article about the cash gift wedding culture in Korea.

Sorry to be off topic, but is the hub of sparkle ever going to come back?

eventually. Mike's working hard on it, but the particular virus infecting the site is especially virulent, and refuses to give up. If hacking were the X-men, this virus would be Wolverine.

Easy solution to the problem. Make it all anonymous. You hand over the envelope but they don't open it or record any names. They just record the amount given (after you've left) as received. So there is no way to check to see who gave what, just that a total amount was given at the end.

Meaning of the tradition kept intact (assist in defraying the cost of a wedding) while preventing the bribery / extorting angle.
